According to the official statement of the team of developers of Bitcoin, published on 15 June, the new version of Bitcoin Core 0.16.1. This version includes some new features and improvements in performance.
The new release includes “new features, various bug fixes and performance improvements, and updated translations”. It is noteworthy that in this version of Bitcoin Core was removed, the block size parameter. In the opinion of the developers function “-blockmaxsize”, which limited the size of the block up to version 0.15.1, is obsolete. Miners now have to use the option “-blockmaxweight” if they want to limit the size of their blocks.
In addition, the update has affected the wallets that were created in version 0.16 and later. They are “not compatible with versions prior to 0.16 and will not work if you try to use the newly created wallets in older versions.”
The previous client version of Bitcoin Core was released in late February and included “full support” technology scaling Segregated Witness (SegWit), which is designed to reduce the time of processing transactions and reduce fees. Bitcoin Core developer Jimmy song, then commented on the most notable feature of Bitcoin Core version 0.16.0, saying that “native support SegWit (bech32) will contribute to the further dissemination of this Protocol. This will reduce problems with the blocks and stimulates the wallets in the ecosystem make bech32”.
