According to the latest report from McAfee Labs, the number of mining-attacks or cases of black hash, when the user’s computer is used for mining cryptocurrency without permission of the owner in the second quarter of 2018 increased by 86%.
In the report, experts on cyber security said that in the second quarter were more than 2.5 million case black mining. For comparison, the number of such attacks in the fourth quarter of 2017 amounted to only 400.000.
The authors of the report conclude that the threat of the black mining remains one of the strongest in the field of cybersecurity.
In particular, the report highlights the fact that cybercriminals are actively exploiting new approaches to black mining. Although, the most attractive targets continue to serve as powerful workstations and gaming computers and laptops, a growing number of cases of mining on peripheral devices, such as routers, cameras and other devices part of the Internet of things.
