According to estimates banking giant Morgan Stanley, this year hedge funds have invested in the cryptocurrency of 2 billion dollars.
This figure was specified in the application called “Bitcoin Decoded” (“Decrypting bitcoin”), which Morgan Stanley sent its customers this week.
The investment Bank also pointed out that over the past six years had more than 100 hedge funds associated with cryptocurrencies, 84 of which were launched in 2017.
It is not surprising that the steep increase coincides with the increase in the price of bitcoin 20 times this year, from about $ 800 at the beginning of January almost to 20,000 last weekend.
The announcement was made on the basis of own research at Morgan Stanley and research firm Autonomous NEXT. It gives a clear picture of the growing interest of institutional investors due to launch of bitcoin futures on CME Group and CBOE, the two largest commodity exchanges in the United States.
According to reports this week, the well-known Manager of hedge Fund bill Miller, Chairman and chief investment officer Miller Valued Partners, noted that his Foundation MVP1 now puts about 50 per cent of turnover on bitcoin and Bitcoin to Cash. This is a significant increase compared to 5 per cent in early involvement in the cryptocurrency industry.
