Facebook announced the creation of a team that will study the blockchain.
The initiative will be headed by David Marcus, who held the position of Vice President for the company messenger (Messenger). Marcus also previously served as President of PayPal.
After almost four extremely enjoyable years I spent in Messenger, I decided it was time to take a new challenge. I create a small group to explore how you can apply the blockchain technology to Facebook.
As Recode reports, the team will be less than a dozen people and composed of developers and reproduction of units Instagram.
The exact purpose of this command is unclear, but this is the first major step Facebook working with this technology.
Earlier ex-President of PayPal said that Facebook Messenger is open to implement cryptocurrency payments as soon as the blockchain community “will fix all the problems”.
In February of 2018 Facebook has also banned the advertisement of ICO and cryptocurrency projects on the platform, saying that in this niche too many fraudulent projects.
