Next week a group of regulators of the European Union will meet to discuss regulation of the cryptocurrency market.
During a meeting with reporters on Tuesday, Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis said that the meeting will be attended by representatives of Central banks and representatives of the European Union. Dombrovskis also said that “market participants” will also be invited to speak, although it is for “members” Dombrovskis said.
Next week, February 26, I will preside at a round table high-level cryptocurrency. The Commission invited representatives of all the key bodies, including representatives of the Central banks and observers from the European Union, as well as market participants to share their ideas.
The aim was to look at long-term trends related to virtual currencies, and to understand if current regulatory standards in a changing situation or not.
Recently, the US held hearings on cryptocurrencies, which was attended by legislators and regulators. Participants came to the conclusion that the cryptocurrency market it is necessary to monitor, although in the near future, no steps in this direction will be undertaken.
It is expected that at least some of the participants of the round table will tend to a more rigid position on the regulation of cryptocurrencies. This is evidenced by the warning issued recently by three national organizations: the European governance securities and markets authority (ESMA), European banking control ( EBA) and European insurance and occupational pension governance (EIOPA).
It is unknown whether the round table to be attended by representatives of these agencies.
