All proceeds from the store go to support the activities of WikiLeaks, and customers can, or rather could, to pay for purchases in Bitcoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin, Cash, Dash, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Neo, Namecoin, Vertcoin, Monero and using zcash for Coinpayments.net.
In response to such actions of WikiLeaks have called for a boycott Coinbase:
WikiLeaks will call for a global blockade of Coinbase next week as an unfit member of the crypto community. Coinbase, a Californian Bitcoin large processor, responding to a concealed influence, has blocked the entirely harmless @WikiLeaksShop in a decision approved by management. https://t.co/PAldF8b12P— WikiLeaks (@wikileaks) April 21, 2018
Bitcoin Evangelist Andreas M. Antonopoulos tweeted that Coinbase “repeats history” because Bitcoin has played an important role in the history of WikiLeaks as the global financial structure has effectively blocked the possibility of financing:
We have come full circle. Many people’s interest in bitcoin started when Wikileaks was out under an extra judicial embargo by VISA, MC, PayPal and banks. Now Coinbase has repeated history. Oops. https://t.co/b8HQkoOwyQ— Andreas M. Antonopoulos (@aantonop) April 21, 2018
Last fall, the leader of WikiLeaks Julian Assange publicly thanked the US government for the fact that at the time of the organization had to switch completely to bitcoin due to Bank embargo, which resulted in 50,000 percent increase of income for WikiLeaks.
Antonopoulos added in comments to your tweet that the embargo Coinbase differs from the first in the sense that it was “purely symbolic” because there are other cryptocurrency wallets, but that “it’s a pretty strong reminder of what constitutes centralization and banking regulation”.
