Charity cryptocurrency community: how and where to donate

Three organizations receive charitable donations in cryptocurrencies such as UNICEF, the open medicine Foundation (Open Medicine Foundation) and the research of the SENS Research Foundation.

Last year, the growth of cryptocurrencies has been staggering. Now, despite price fluctuations, the owners of cryptocurrencies remain open for noble deeds.

One example of such generosity is a donation of $ 5 million in bitcoins anonymous benefactor in favor of the California open medicine Foundation (OMF). Funds came in the form of two donations, one in the amount of $ 1 million last month, and the second size of 4 million from the same patron this month. Anonymous just called yourself a “Pine” from the charity Fund Pineapple.

The open medicine Foundation plans to use the funds provided to fight the disease. Funds should be sufficient for a long period. Linda Tannenbaum, founder and President of OMF said:

“This significant donation will help our organization to accelerate and expand ongoing studies of treatment Milicejskaja encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue syndrome and other chronic diseases, and to continue the struggle for a better future for patients.”

In his message, anonymous “Pine” noted that his decision to donate such a large sum of Fund was affected by letters from scientists in support of OMF.

At OMF have an account with BitPay, created about a year ago, through which the organization can receive anonymous donations in bitcoin. Children’s Fund United Nations UNICEF has created a similar system on the Ethereum blockchain. With its help, users are able to donate their computing power to mining of Ether, which, in turn, is sent in the form of donations to UNICEF.

UNICEF intends to use the collected cryptocurrency to help 13,5 million Syrians objasnuva in the “very dire humanitarian crisis for the last 20 years.” To donate mining power users need to download and run the application for mining Ethereum — Claymore.

In instructions to users on the website of a charitable organization stated “Install Claymore and always run it for mining. Without much effort and without spending a penny, you will receive the money directly to the wallet of UNICEF”. The project will continue for another 57 days, during which it will be possible to keep track of fundraising online.

Research Foundation SENS Research Foundation also received donations in the Air, this time directly from Vitalik Buterin (founder Ethereum). The work of the organization focused on regenerative medicine and anti-aging. Buterin donated about 2.4 million U.S. dollars.

Buterin explained his motivation, referring to the work of the chief scientific adviser SENS Dr. Aubrey de grey:

“Ever since I first read the book, Aubrey “ending aging” (“Ending Aging”), as a teenager, I became his fan. I am happy that I have the opportunity to support the work of SENS. Their concentration is on solving the aging problem, one of the biggest problems facing humanity, very impressed with my desire to positively influence the lives of millions of people around the world.”

Mike cope, Director General of SENS, commented on the donation Buterin:

“This incredible generosity of acne — it is a privilege for SENS Research Foundation … His support is extremely important to expand research programs of our organization… Our work on anti-aging directly depends on the generous help of our supporters, so we owe him a huge gratitude for this support”.

The SENS Foundation has previously received two anonymous donations from Pineapple Fund in bitcoins, each worth 1 million dollars.

The General spirit of the cryptocurrency ecosystem focused on inclusion and decentralization. But the humanitarian activities of its leaders and participants reflects the desire within the ecosystem — to change the world for the better.
