When cryptocurrency enthusiasts wondering “who has most bitcoins” will likely come to mind countries such as USA or China. Thoughts on Bifinex and Coinbase is also not left out.
However, surprisingly, the country with the second largest supply of Bitcoins in the world is Bulgaria.
The man who owns the largest number of bitcoins remains Satoshi Nakamoto with their assets in 1.1 million bitcoins, worth about $ 6 billion. Nakamoto doesn’t touch their coins, but the huge market power that it can have if you decide to sell them, incomprehensible.
Last year, the Bulgarian government withdrew nearly $ 1.3 billion in bitcoins, 213 519 coins, to be exact. The amount of seized bitcoins was enough to repay 25% of the public debt of Bulgaria. According to the press, the criminal group, which owned the seized bitcoins early, used them to evade taxes.
The Bulgarian government did not disclose its plans for the seized coins. In the United States, for example, the confiscated cryptocurrency soon go under the hammer at auction. Considering the cumulative number of bitcoins in Bulgaria, it is not surprising that the country has the second largest reserve of Bitcoin.
To date, no one person or organization can compete with the reserves of Nakamoto and the government of Bulgaria.
